Chainsaw Will Not Start

• Fuel is old or contaminated: Drain stale fuel and refill with fresh properly mixed fuel recommended for your ECHO chainsaw model.
• Incorrect starting procedure: Follow the cold-start or warm-start procedure shown in the model-specific manual, including choke, purge bulb, and throttle lock steps where applicable.
• Spark plug problem: Inspect the spark plug for fouling, carbon buildup, fuel wetness, cracked porcelain, loose boot, or incorrect gap.
• Air filter blocked: Clean or replace the air filter if it is clogged with sawdust, dirt, oil residue, or fine debris.
• Flooded engine: Move the choke to the correct position, follow the manual's flooded-engine procedure, and avoid repeated priming.

Engine Starts but Runs Rough or Stalls

• Dirty air filter: Clean the air filter regularly, especially after cutting dusty, dry, or dirty wood.
• Fuel mixture problem: Use fresh fuel with the correct two-stroke oil ratio specified for your chainsaw.
• Carburetor dirty: Varnish deposits, blocked jets, or restricted fuel passages can cause surging, hesitation, or stalling.
• Fuel filter restricted: Inspect the in-tank fuel filter and fuel line for blockage, cracks, or deterioration.
• Muffler or spark arrestor clogged: Clean the spark arrestor screen if power drops or the engine will not accelerate normally.

Chainsaw Starts but Chain Does Not Move

• Chain brake engaged: Pull the front hand guard back toward the handle to release the chain brake before cutting.
• Chain tension too tight: Adjust the chain so it moves freely around the bar while still fitting securely in the bar groove.
• Clutch area jammed: Remove the clutch cover and clean sawdust, chips, oil buildup, or debris around the clutch and sprocket.
• Drive sprocket worn: Inspect the rim or spur sprocket for grooves, damage, or uneven wear.
• Chain installed incorrectly: Confirm the cutting teeth face the correct direction on the top of the guide bar.

Chain Will Not Cut Properly

• Chain is dull: Sharpen or replace the chain if it produces fine dust instead of chips or requires heavy pressure to cut.
• Depth gauges too high: File depth gauges according to the chain specifications if the chain cuts slowly after sharpening.
• Chain installed backward: Reinstall the chain so the cutters face forward on the top side of the bar.
• Wrong chain type: Use a chain with the correct pitch, gauge, and drive-link count for the bar and sprocket.
• Bar groove worn: Inspect the guide bar groove, rails, nose sprocket, and oil holes for wear or blockage.

Chain Comes Loose or Jumps Off

• Chain tension incorrect: Adjust chain tension after installation and recheck it during use, especially when the chain is new.
• Bar nuts loose: Tighten the guide bar nuts securely after adjusting chain tension.
• Drive links damaged: Inspect chain drive links for burrs, bending, cracking, or damage after derailment.
• Guide bar worn: Replace the guide bar if the rails are spread, uneven, pinched, or badly worn.
• Sprocket worn: Replace a worn drive sprocket that no longer supports the chain correctly.

Bar and Chain Oiling Problems

• Oil tank empty: Fill the chain oil tank with proper bar and chain oil before cutting.
• Oil hole blocked: Clean the guide bar oil hole, bar groove, and oil outlet area behind the bar.
• Wrong oil viscosity: Use suitable bar and chain oil for the operating temperature and cutting conditions.
• Oil pump restricted: Sawdust or debris around the oil outlet can reduce oil flow to the bar.
• Excessive oil leaking during storage: Some oil seepage can occur, but heavy leakage may indicate overfilling, a damaged cap, or clogged venting.

Chain Brake and Safety Problems

• Chain brake will not release: Stop the saw and inspect the brake handle, clutch cover, brake band, and debris around the mechanism.
• Chain brake does not stop chain: Do not operate the saw until the brake system is inspected and repaired.
• Front hand guard damaged: Replace damaged safety components before using the chainsaw.
• Throttle trigger sticks: Clean the handle area and inspect the throttle lockout, trigger, linkage, and return spring.
• Chain moves at idle: Adjust idle speed according to the manual or service the clutch and carburetor if the chain continues moving.

ECHO Battery Chainsaw Problems

• Battery not charged: Fully charge the ECHO battery pack using the approved charger before use.
• Battery not seated correctly: Remove and reinstall the battery until it locks securely into place.
• Short runtime: Charge the battery fully, sharpen the chain, reduce cutting load, and avoid forcing the saw through thick wood.
• Charger indicator flashing: Follow the charger light guide to identify charging, temperature delay, or battery fault status.
• Motor stops during cutting: Release the trigger, remove the battery, clear the chain or bar obstruction, and allow the tool to cool.

Noise, Vibration and Cutting Performance Problems

• Excessive vibration: Inspect the chain, bar, sprocket, clutch, anti-vibration mounts, and chain tension.
• Rattling noise: Check the clutch cover, bar nuts, muffler fasteners, chain catcher, and handle hardware.
• Burning smell: Stop cutting and check chain sharpness, chain tension, bar lubrication, clutch slipping, and cutting pressure.
• Saw pulls to one side: Sharpen cutters evenly and inspect the guide bar rails for uneven wear.
• Bar overheats: Check oil flow, bar groove cleanliness, chain tension, chain sharpness, and cutting technique.

Fuel, Storage and Maintenance Tips

• Use fresh fuel: Mix only the amount of two-stroke fuel you can use within a reasonable period and follow the manual's fuel recommendations.
• Clean after each use: Remove sawdust from the clutch cover, starter housing, air intake, bar groove, sprocket area, and chain brake area.
• Inspect chain tension: Check chain tension before each use and after the first few cuts with a new chain.
• Maintain the guide bar: Clean oil holes, flip the bar periodically where recommended, and file burrs from the bar rails.
• Prepare for storage: Empty or stabilize fuel according to the manual, clean the saw, lubricate the bar and chain, and store the chainsaw in a dry location.

Safety note: Always stop the engine or remove the battery, engage the chain brake, allow the chain to stop completely, and wear proper protective equipment before adjusting chain tension, replacing the chain, cleaning the bar, or performing maintenance.
